FEI was one of the first faculties in the country to have a mini-baja team participating in the national and international competitions held annually by the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers).
The mini-baja races give our students an opportunity to take part in automotive studies and projects. Geared exclusively to undergraduate students, they are a way of stimulating students and introducing them to practical knowledge on design, construction, assembly and maintenance of machines. The result of this work is an off-road vehicle known as a Baja SAE.
The Baja competitions were created by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) in 1976 and were introduced into our country in 1995 by SAE Brazil, a branch of SAE International. FEI was one of the first faculties to have a mini-baja team from the very first Brazilian edition of the competition.
The FEI team is a five-time Champion of the SAE Brazil competition in the years of 2001, 2002, 2005, 2007 and 2009 and three times world champion in 2004, 2007 and 2008. In 2004 students of the FEI Mini-Baja Team won the SAE Midwest Mini Baja title in Wisconsin/USA out of 120 teams from 10 countries, in 2007 the FEI Baja SAE Team won the overall title at the Baja SAE Rochester World Challenge held in Rochester, New York USA with 126 teams participating from 9 countries and in 2008, once again, the FEI Baja SAE Team won the top title at the Baja SAE Montreal World Challenge, held in Montreal, Canada, involving 123 teams from 6 countries.
